Abstract
We constructed the reference Intervals of blood cell count and size during the first day of lfe m 334 normal full term newborns. Among 334, male were 161 and female, 173, which were also partitioned for delivery type. The above status was obtained by automated hematology analyzer, Coulter ST. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The reference interval of WBC was 9.436-30.085 x lO`/ul, and the value of female was significantly higher. 2. The reference intervals of RBC, HGB, and HCT were 3.725 ~ 5.413 x lO/ul, 13.4 ~ 20.0 g ; de, , and 39.6 - 58.5 %, respectively. Normal vaginal delivery group have significant I> higher HGB and HCT than cesarian section group(p=0.0181, 0.0172). 3. The reference intervals of MCV, MCH and MCHC were 99.6 - 112.6fI, 33.7 ~ 38.7pg and 32.1~ 35.5 g /de, respectively. 4. The reference interval of RDW was ranged between 14.0 and 17.5%, and was significantly higher among male(p= 0.0161). 5. The reference intervals of PLT and PDW were 160- 394 X lO`/ul and 17.3 ~ 20.4 `%, respectively. The number of PLT was higher among female and cesarian section group. 6. By the result of our study it is revealed that there are significant differences hetlveen the result obtained by other reporters who used either ma&al count or other instruments. It is important and advisable that every laboratory will construct its own local reference ranges by its specific analytical systems by itself and the reference intervals according to age will be construct,ed by automated hematology analyzer.
